Founded in 1986, the James Beard Foundation is a New York-based national professional non-profit organization named in honor of James Beard that serves to promote the culinary arts by honoring chefs, wine professionals, journalists, cookbook authors, and food websites at annual award ceremonies and providing scholarships and educational opportunities to cooking hopefuls.

The James Beard Foundation provides grants to young chefs, hosts dinners with well-known and up and coming chefs. Every year they sponsor a culinary tour of America, providing an opportunity for us to experience culinary greatness in our own cities.

The James Beard Foundation nominates and awards a long list of culinary hopefuls, and continues to strive for excellence and exploration in the world of food and cookery.
