Celebrate Eat All Your Veggies Day, June 17th.The month of October brings one of the days that all my friends love to celebrate: Halloween. But before we jump ahead to the time of the veil lifting between the living and the dead, let’s look at what foods are celebrated this month.

It’s National Vegetarian Awareness Month and if you don’t know about this, it just means you can start looking at your beans, rice, fruits, and vegetables in a different way. I have had numerous discussions with people who tell me they don’t like vegetables. When we get deeper into a discussion I help them realize the amount of vegetables that are actually in their diet. It’s a fun way to help someone discover that they are actually eating more vegetables than they realize.

spoon of chiliIt’s the month of chili. Not the kind that are hot and spicy and go in everything I cook, but the dish known as chili. You can expect a post about my favorite recipe during this month.

Weekly celebrations seem to repeat the month long celebrations: chili, pickled peppers, but there’s also the week of Bulk Foods. I’ve been buying in bulk for so long its second nature to me. I know some folks still have a hard time discovering the joy of the bulk bins. There’s a kind of shopping pleasure in picking out the kinds of beans I want and placing them in the bag myself.

Daily food celebrations include, but are not limited to, World VegetarianDay, Taco Day (who doesn’t love tacos?), Dessert Day, and Canning Day. I just wrote about my adventures in canning so this is very appropriate. Also we have National Chocolate Day, yum!It seems like the daily food observances for vegans is pretty short thismonth, but you can make up for it by eating (ADD LINK) apples every day.
