Festival Fun at VeggieFest Chicago

Recently I traveled almost 4,000 miles to participate in VeggieFest 2016 in Chicago, which is one of the largest and oldest vegetarian festivals here in the states. My spouse and I drove across the country so I could split open a watermelon and talk about chilies and tofu.

The festival itself was wonderful with so many like-minded people gathered together and the demos went off well. I did Watermelon Three Ways and Red Chili Tofu Taco Salad. You can watch the full watermelon demo in the video below.

This is the second year for this event run by U.S. Veg Corp, an event company out of New York City. They also produce the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival, and are working on adding a third event for Southern California next fall.

This was my second year volunteering. Last year I presented a Chef Demo, Breakfast in the Afternoon. This year, due to health issues, I was asked if I would give a talk in the Speaker’s Tent and if I could help run the tent. I said, “Of course.”

Roosevelt Row Chile Festival

I recently attended the 4th Ave Roosevelt Row Chile Festival here in Phoenix, AZ. While there was no program that listed time of events, including the chef demos, there were many food vendors with unexpected vegan options.

UB pulled jackfruit tacoHere in the Southwest we celebrate the blend of chilies and chocolate, a combination that was the pride of the Aztecs and was in abundance at the Festival. My favorite coffee shop, Urban Beans, dished up a chili dipped in chocolate.
